Atlantic City Casinos Apply For Licenses

All 12 casinos apply while PokerStars is delayed

 

The regulations regarding online gambling in New Jersey gave the operators until the end of last month to declare their partnerships for the upcoming launch of the market. Since only operators that own a casino in Atlantic City and their partners can get a license, The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement confirmed that all 12 casinos in the popular gambling city are looking to join the online gaming industry.

Atlantic City Casinos Apply For LicensesA while back, the Trump Taj Mahal declared that it reached an agreement with Ultimate Gaming, the operator behind the first real money online poker room to launch in Nevada, Ultimate Poker. This agreement would allow the site to also be available in New Jersey once the light turns green. The DGE did not offer any information regarding the identities of the partners that have grouped with the Atlantic City casinos but they will have until the end of July to submit their applications for licensing.

The launch of the regulated online gambling market is expected to take place in November and the partners that don’t get approved during this first round can be replaced by other companies in the future.

PokerStars being delayed

When the regulations in New Jersey were presented, PokerStars showed interest in buying a casino in Atlantic City in order to get access to the market it once dominated. However, the online poker behemoth was unable to get the needed approval and the deal expired, leaving PokerStars a few million lighter and with nothing to show for it. Since then, Stars went to court against Atlantic Club, the casino it was set to buy, trying to make them stick to the deal they made last year. However, on May 17 the court gave Atlantic Club permission to walk away and while Stars appealed the decision last month, the interlocutory phase was lost on Monday.

Now, things aren’t looking very good for PokerStars and the online poker operator might have to look for another window in order to get in the US online gaming market. Of course, leading in the rest of the world by a big margin makes for a great consolation prize but it is highly unlikely that Stars will stop here.
